Passion Pit

If I was personifying a hipster that knew a lot about obscure hipster-ish music I'd Say "Here's a band you need to be into: Passion Pit." Then I'd jump on my singlespeed and ride off to buy a vegan brownie.

Really though, Passion Pit is a really good addition to any music colectsch. Their new album, "Chunk of Change," really really is a cut above. Check em out. Passion Pit's sound reminds me a little bit of a cross between Au Revoir Simone and Polyphonic Spree.

Studio Week Delirium

If you're one of my fellow students at Portfolio Center, you're probably wondering if those gremlins in your room are A) a sleep-induced apparition or B) a caffeine-induced hallucination.

There's some really dope work coming out of PC this quarter. If you want to see some of mine, you'll have to wait. The dudes at Epidemik Coalition are toiling 'round the clock on my website, so you'll be able to see why I haven't been around much the past two years.

All that aside, here's some free Beastie Boys for your work, play, or delirium.

Download B-Boy Bouillabaisse.

Sorry. I could not help it. This guy is blowing my mind. If you get a chance, watch all the derivative videos—they're posted in the info section of the video.

Kutiman—remix videos...now you know

Kutiman is an Israeli producer. For his recent project, he's taken completely unrelated YouTube videos and sliced them together to form a composition.

The Whitest Music in the World

I've formed another postulate about music.

311 is the whitest music ever. Think about it: a bunch of reggae-loving, weed-smoking, high-pitched-rapping, guitar-distortion-playing guys from NEBRASKA= really, really, white music.

Their music has little-to-no appeal to anyone that is NOT white. Why choose 311? You like reggae, rap, and metal, and perhaps rap metal—and you want it all at once.

If you wanted reggae, you could easily listen to Bob Marley. If you wanted some metal, you could listen to Slayer. If you wanted rap, you could listen to Wu-Tang, and if you wanted rap metal you have Rage Against the Machine, or even Limp Biskit. But all three? There's only 311. And they've only found marginal success at bending musical genres.

SO think about it. If you've found yourself with a short attention span for only one genre of music, and you're white, chances you've really jammed to 311 at some point. C'mon, their bass player belongs in Phish.

I rest my case.

Download Nirvana's Nevermind

Yup. The whole album. If you don't like this band, you're probably communist or Al Qaeda. And that means you're an enemy.

Download it here. (the link will be active for one week. After that, you're SOL.)

Reminiscent of Brandon DiCamillo's CKY2K Rhyme

Give this one a chance. It gets pretty rad.

Reeeeeemix

I picked this up on Diplo's site today. It's a big 'ol megamix—perfect for a run/workout. I actually just listened to this and it's annoying the hell out of me. Don't download it. If you're feeling adventurous today, check it out. But be forewarned.

From now on, I will preview the music I share with you. 1000 apologies.
Download for free here.

Back to Work

I've been off for two weeks. I've been climbing mountains, walking in rivers, shooting guns, eating Mexican foods, spending monies, and mooching off my parents. My friends, the desert does wonders for the soul... BUT all that equates to no blogging. And that's cool... that's cool — all good things must come to an end though.

So here I am back in front of the old computer for another 12-week intellectual crucible.

Here's a couple things I've found on MissingToof: A Drum & Bass remix Of Santogold's Unstoppable. And a bunch of other hour-long megamixes featuring a bunch of rad people.

Back to school, back to school,
I hope I don't look like a fool.
I got my shoes, they're tied up tight,
I hope I don't get in a fight....

Swagger Like Us

Athens, GA's Immuzikation does it again with Swagger Like Us. You'll probably recognize part of the hook from M.I.A.'s Paper Planes. You'll probably also hear a sick verse from Kanye, T.I., and a whole bunch of other crazy sonic stuff.

Diplo+Dark Meat= I was there

Dark Meat SUCKS. Imagine a hipster troupe of 12 people all playing their instruments as loud as possible. Then put that troupe in a small room.

Diplo's set was ill. Best DJ set I've ever seen.
